Starting with the GPS. There are three ways you can pair it with Carman. Let's begin with the easiest: open Carman, go to Maps > Options (on the button right of the screen) > Configure GPS. The program will identify the GPS receiver available, choose it and type its passkey to pair the GPS receiver with the application.
Second way: in the Maps mode, go to the Connection Status Dialog (on the top left of the screen), choose GPS and then again your tablet will identify the GPS receiver available. The pairing procedure is the same.
You can also do this outside Carman. Before running the app, go to Settings > Control panel > Carman Settings > GPS. If you have N810, the "Internal GPS" option will appear. In case you have N800, you'll have to choose "pair new device".
Detailed urban streets, intercity and interstates maps. You choose. Download maps according to its zoom level, scroll them and locate yourself on the map with the GPS button.
To choose the location where your maps will be when you save them, go to the browser menu > Settings > Maps. Three options are available: Internal MMC, External MMC and Home Folder, which is the automatic option in case you don't choose to use multimedia cards.
Reminding that once in the Maps mode, you can zoom in and zoom out and scroll to any direction.
And learn here how to add map services.
There are five different screens with gauges and bars indicating:
1. RPM, Engine Load, ATP (Absolute Throttle Position) and Speed
2. ECT (Engine Cooler Temperature), Time Advance and IMP (Intake Manifold Pressure)
3. EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation), Fuel Pressure, EGR Error
4. Short Fuel Trim 1, RPM and Long Fuel Trim 1
5. Short Fuel Trim 2, RPM and Long Fuel Trim 2
Acceleration Ranking: test your car to see how fast it can go. From 0 to 100 km/h or from 0 to 60 mph/h. The latest five tests will be kept saved in a bar graphic.
Check button: one click to understand why the Check Engine light is on and maybe spare yourself from going to the mechanic.
Speed Alert button: if you activate it, this alert sounds a beep whenever you exceed the speed limit you decided not to cross. Attention: due to different response delays from the OBD, this alert may sound not in the exact time you cross the limit.
In a graphic screen, you can either check your trip data in real-time or analyze it later, comparing speed, RPM and altitude with time.
Scrolling and zooming the graphic is also quite helpful when a panoramic or closer view of your trip data is required.
By splitting the report graphic screen with the map screen, you can check where exactly you went faster and higher (or slower and lower…).
The trips can be managed: reset it, label it and delete it if you want.
With the trip stats you can always be monitoring your performance with detailed statistics, such as maximum speed and minimum RPM.
Developing is all about having fun, and here you can appreciate what we consider to be our extra plus gift in the package. This feature demands quite a few requirements so that you can fully enjoy what we developed. So let's begin by ticking off the checklist.
First you have to download and install Pidgin on your tablet (Pidgin is an instant messaging program that can log you to multiple accounts on AIM, ICQ, Jabber/XMPP, MSN, Yahoo!, Bonjour, Gadu-Gadu, IRC, Novell GroupWise Messenger, QQ, Lotus Sametime, SILC, SIMPLE, MySpaceIM, and Zephyr).
Setup process completed, Pidgin will ask you to add your account.
Now you can run Pidgin and click on Tools > Plugins and activate the Carman Information Share.
Make sure your GPS is working and the internet connection is ok.
And remember: your friend must also have Pidgin installed, be connected and with the GPS working – not to mention the "using Carman" requirement.
Once online and with everything installed, go to the Maps section, choose Option > Follow Friend and select the friend from your pidgin list. Click on the buddy icon to see where your friend is on the map and share information like speed, RPM and altitude. To locate yourself again on the map, just click on the GPS triangle icon.

Carman comes with both Metric and Imperial System Unit, and you can check your data in both ways, with km per hour or miles per hour. To do that, go to Options > Change Unit.
